A traditional event since Heian era.
Mochi rice, donated from all over Japan, are pounded with many pestles.
Hense it is called Thousand Pestle Pouding. The product, rice cakes are
distributed to visitors afters after being placed in front of Zaou Gongen
at Zaoudou.
A unique lighting ceremony by femal dicipliants also available. |

Todd jumping ceremony with a drum with huge green frog going in Zaoudou
after Houyou. This event is based on a legend of this temple: a man who
did not take seriously of his decipline and thereby was changed to a hawk
was changed to todd by a great monk. After all, by a prist he changed back
to a human again. |
